Madurai Students Join Walkathon Promoting Drug-Free Lives
Students marched through central Madurai in an awareness event where Minister R. Nirmalkumar urged young people to seek help from parents and teachers.
Minister R. Nirmalkumar called on students to remain aware of the harm caused by drugs and to approach parents or teachers whenever they face peer pressure or personal problems.
He delivered the message on Saturday while flagging off a large anti-drug walkathon from the Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai.
Adhyapana School organized the event with the Rotary Club of Madurai West and other partners. Nirmalkumar said a drug-free generation was essential to the State’s peace, prosperity and growth.
The Minister praised the school and its management for arranging the campaign. He urged students not to hide difficulties from trusted adults, emphasized the value of maintaining good health and promised government support.
Members of the school’s Interact Club and EarlyAct Club carried placards reading “Say no to drugs.” Led by senior principal and correspondent Aruna Visvessvar, they pledged to make society more aware of the effects of drug use and not to be drawn into substance abuse.
The procession began at the Gandhi Museum and followed major routes past the District Collectorate, Wakf Board College and Tamil Sangam Road before returning to the museum.
Dean of Academics Visesh Aiyer, Principal B. Muthumala and Rotary Club of Madurai West president Aarti Suresh were among those taking part, according to a press release.
